Joseph C. Stashik, 92, of Sheatown, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Glen Lyon, the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Boynoski Stashik.
Joe served with the U.S. Army, 3rd Signal Co., 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He was employed by McGregor Sportswear, Holy Child Church, and Mercy Health Care Center in the maintenance department, retiring to care for his wife during her illness.
He was a faithful and devout member of Holy Child Parish (now St. Faustina Kowalski Parish) until its closing, serving as a lector, choir member, and Eucharistic Minister, as well as a dedicated member of the Holy Name Society.
An avid bowler, Joe bowled in numerous leagues for many years. He successfully completed a 7-10 split, but his proudest accomplishment was winning the 1994 Senior Pro/Am Tournament at Stanton Lanes where he got to bowl with the very bowlers he had watched on TV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Bernadine, in 1998, and his siblings, Bernadine, Michael and Stanley.
Joe is survived by his beloved children, Theresa Stashik, David Stashik, and Michele (Michael) Santuk, and his greatest treasures – his grandchildren: Alex (Brianne) Stashik, Jenna Santuk, and Kendra Santuk – his very bestest buddy. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends and great neighbors. A devoted father and grandfather, who always had a smile for anyone he met, he will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 30, at 10:00 a.m. at St Faustina Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with interment to follow at St. John’s The Baptist Cemetery. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 29, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St John’s The Baptist Slovak Cemetery Association or St. Faustina Kowalski Parish Food Pantry.
