Marie Frances Decker April 4, 2025

Marie Frances Decker, of Plains Township, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born August 26, 1930 in Larksville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Bartosavage. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years Albert G. Decker, and her sisters Elizabeth Janoski, Monica Hydock, and Dorothy Theriault.

Marie was a graduate of Larksville High School and a member of Saint Anthony/St George Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre. Before her marriage she worked as a secretary, but being a wife and mother was her true calling. Marie was an avid cook, baker, and a voracious reader. She had a particular fondness for historical novels about World War II. She spent a great deal of time during her last years reading with her loyal cat companion and best friend, Winston, at her side.

Surviving are her children and spouses: Cynthia Decker Raynak (Richard), State College, PA; Amy L. Decker (Curt), Havertown, PA; Bert G. Decker (Christine), Marlton, NJ, and grandchildren Matthew Decker (Safiyah) and Mitchell Decker. She is also survived by her cherished niece and husband, Judy and Joe Hayes, who were so loving and supportive to her, and her nephew and wife, Jeffrey and Linda Decker who never failed to check in and visit with her.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers who were so diligent and kind to her these last few years and made it possible for her to stay in her home; Jeanine Sherblom, Rayna Honsby, and Christine Hutchins. And we would like to extend a thank you to Joyce Ruble from Compassus Hospice for her compassionate expertise and Ryan Plump from UPMC for her invaluable assistance. And finally, our family also extends our appreciation to the family friends who visited, prayed for, and supported Marie throughout these past few difficult years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 11, at St. Anthony/St George Maronite Church, 311 Park Ave, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 at 10:00 am, with Father Adib Salameh officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Friday morning from 8:30 am until 9:30 am at Mamary – Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s name to Whiskers World, 100 Williams St., Plains, PA 18705 or the charity of your choice.
