David Dorrance Jones, 65, of Davenport, FL, passed away on July 19, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born on February 21, 1960, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, David was a 1980 graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School.
David faced an eight-year battle with ALS with remarkable strength and resilience. Despite the challenges, he never let the disease define him or dampen his spirit. He continued to embrace life with humor, passion, and determination—always finding ways to stay connected to the people and passions he loved most. His courage inspired everyone around him.
David lived a life full of energy, joy, and unforgettable moments. A lifelong sports enthusiast, David passionately cheered for his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Rooting for NASCAR icon Richard Petty and his teams held a special place in his life. He found joy not just in cheering on his favorite teams, but in the thrill of the chase—tracking down autographs from athletes, TV and movie personalities, and cultural icons. Each signature carried a story and a memory, proudly displayed as a celebration of the moments and people he cherished.
His sense of humor was infectious, and his laughter could light up any room. He never missed a chance to lift someone’s spirits or create a memory that would last a lifetime.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Lois (Van Norman) Meehan and father, John Dickson Jones; brother, Dwight; twin sister Dawn (Jones Marek) and sister Debbie (Makelonis).
David is survived by his wife of 41 years and lifelong adventure partner, Melinda, who was always by his side, as well as his sisters, Diane Youngblood and Denise Tomko and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being provided by Good Life Funeral Home, Orlando, and Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, Wilkes-Barre. On Monday, July 28th, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in All Saints Parish Catholic Church, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth, PA. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 9am to Mass time. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery,1250 South Main Street, Hanover Twp.
Great care throughout his journey was provided by Mayo Clinic Florida, the University of South Florida ALS Clinic, Tampa, and AdventHealth Home Health. The family would like to sincerely thank AdventHealth Kissimmee Hospice for their compassion and guidance in David’s final hours.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a memorial donation for ALS research via ALS.org. or to any special racing-affiliated organization/charity such as VictoryJunction.org.
