Joseph (Joe) Walsh of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully on January 28 at home at the age of 73.
He was born on October 11, 1949 in Wilkes-Barre to the late James J. Walsh and Margaret Mary Gill Walsh. After graduating from Meyers High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force. Stationed in Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, he served as a photographer and photo imagery specialist during the Vietnam era. That passion for photography followed him into civilian life where he used his talents to capture personal and community events, including shooting aerial photography of the 1972 flood.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pattie of 37 years and his son Andy.
Joe leaves behind his son Chris Walsh, wife Angelica and daughter Annie, Las Vegas, NV, daughter Shannon Walsh Smith and husband Andrew, West Chester, PA, 4 brothers-Rev. Jim Walsh, Scranton, Tim Walsh, Reading, Tom Walsh, Plains, and Mike Walsh and wife Arlene, Hanover Twp., sister Patti Walsh Flanagan and husband John, Drums, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe Walsh was a man of faith, courage, and service. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cherished and served his God, family, friends, and country, all of whom he loved deeply. In particular, he was an especially devoted husband and caregiver to his wife Pattie.
Family and friends are invited to meet for a visitation on Thursday, February 2 at 10am at St. Jude’s Parish, 420 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.
