William Dougherty October 11, 2023

William, age 68, of Kingston passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, October 11th.
Born in Lattimer Mines on July 13, 1955, he was the son of James Dougherty and Christella
Hall. Bill was the last living member of his immediate family, as he was preceded in his death by
brothers James, Paul, Cyril and John and a sister Annabelle Kender.
Bill was a 1973 graduate of Bishop Hafey High School. He spent most of his adult professional
life in the Sales and Management department of the commercial baking industry. Bill was one of
the founding members of the Hazel Township fire department, and the first Boys Soccer Coach
of the Hazleton Area Cougars, who went on to win several titles and championships.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed researching his Irish ancestry, and went above and beyond to help
others with their genealogy research. Bill was active in preserving and researching Civil War
history and was a member of several organizations in historic Gettysburg area. He was also an
avid Notre Dame fan.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Kofchock, children Shannon and her husband
Jamie Danko of Kingston, Colleen and her husband Tony Azzaro of Newtown, and son, Sean
and his wife Kaitlyn Dougherty of Keystone Heights, FL. The joys of his life were his four
granddaughters Alexandra, Sydney, Allison and Emma. He is also survived by several nieces
and nephews who he loved very deeply.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, October 16 at St. Ignatius Loyola
Church, Maple St. Kingston, PA. Interment will be at the family’s convenience. Family and
friends may call at the church from 9:15am until time of service.
