Gladys N. Sater February 20, 2024

Gladys N. Sater, 72, of Mountain Top, PA passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024
after a valiant battle with Uterine Leiomyosarcoma.  She passed peacefully at home surrounded
by her loved ones.
Gladys was born on September 15, 1951 in Sourat, Lebanon to Souad and Yousef Nakhoul
Khouri. She got her name after an American client her father met in the days before she was
born touched her father with her grace and beauty. Growing up she lived up to that grace and
beauty and was described as a beautiful “china doll” and was loved by all who knew her. She
was ever the nurturer and mother hen to her younger siblings- always encouraging them to work
hard and pursue an education as well as maintaining strong bonds with her older siblings.
She met and married her husband Joseph in August of 1970. After a chance opportunity, she
emigrated to the United States with Joseph and pregnant with her first child. Gladys was not
daunted by the challenge of being alone in a foreign land while expecting a child. She worked to
learn her new language and dove into the task of motherhood. She was the most nurturing and
gentle parent. Gladys built a family and life with Joseph and her two children (Diana and Dory).
She was an exemplary mother and was the embodiment of unconditional love, strength and
generosity.
Though Gladys never realized her dream to become a teacher, she always taught by example.
Most people remember her for her cooking, and she was always happy to prepare a meal or
share and teach her recipes and tips. She even was able to share her cooking at a restaurant
(Aunt Sara’s) and it was always a sellout! She worked as a seamstress at Classic Bride, the old
Pomeroy’s and many menswear stores. She was most notably remembered for her impeccable
style, sense or fashion and her amazing smell (thanks to Esteé Lauder). She had great style –
she could rock a miniskirt and heels and rock out to Tina Turner like no one else!
Her loss is a great shock and has devastated the family she left behind. She is survived by her
husband, Joseph; daughter Diana (Bassam Roukoz); son Dory and grandchildren: Anthony
Roukoz, Maya Roukoz, Gianna Roukoz, Isabel Sater and Norah Sater. She is also survived by
her siblings Alyce Khouri, Pierre (Sonia) Khouri and Octavy Bounader (and children) and
numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents (Yousef and
Souad), her brothers Boutrous (infant) George and John and her sisters Souad and Saide.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, February 24 from Mamary-Durkin Funeral &
Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre with services held at 10am in St. Anthony’s
Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday, February 23 from 4 to 6pm.

Please consider a donation in her name to LMSDR ( Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research
Foundation).
