Rebecca Wancio September 10, 2024

Rebecca Wancio, 85 and longtime resident of Warminster, PA, passed away peacefully on September 10th at Brookdale Dublin among her family and caregivers.

Rebecca recently resided in Doylestown. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Martha (nee Ruduski) Gluhanicz and grew up in the Hanover section of Nanticoke, PA.

A member of Nanticoke High School class of 1956, she attended Geisinger Nursing School in Danville PA, graduating as an RN in 1959.

Rebecca was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in the Hanover section of Nanticoke. She was the cheerleading Captain in high school and served as treasurer of many clubs as a young woman.

Rebecca was recently preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Edward. She is survived by sons David (Jean Marie) and Daniel (Sandra), daughter Deborah Clark (James), and grandchildren Shain (Katharine), Nicholas, Sarah, Audrey, and Evan.

Becky was a determined person when she set her sights on a goal. She exemplified grit and hard work as well as compassion and patience. Without a single ounce of quit in her, Becky never gave up on anything or anyone important to her. Becky had the heart and soul of a nurse and attended nursing school despite her parent’s wish for her to choose an easier field. She worked as a hospital nurse her whole adult life until retirement, initially as a neurosurgical nurse and later a Labor and Delivery nurse at Geisinger and Abington Memorial Hospitals.

Becky was a devoted wife to Ed who she met while out on the town with her friends. Ed wrote her phone number in the dust of his dashboard and they never looked back. Once married, Becky and Ed moved to Jenkintown and built a life together through thick and thin. She was a loving caregiver to Ed, her family, and friends, and spent many holidays and weekends traveling to visit and help them all. She was a good cook, never went anywhere empty-handed, and was generous with her time. Becky was great at budgeting, Ed often said they each would start with and spend the same amount of money, but somehow Becky always had more change left over. She was an excellent homemaker and could spot a fuzzy on the carpet at 40 paces. As a Mom, Becky had high expectations, but she followed up by providing the most support and encouragement anyone possibly could. We were lucky to learn from and be raised by her. Becky loved her family and friends sincerely and her impact on their lives remains everlasting. We miss her dearly.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, September 18th  in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 106 Welles St. Nanticoke. The family will receive friends from 10am until time of service in the church. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Arrangements are by Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St. Wilkes-Barre.
