Wayne “Dude” Miller, 63 of Hanover Twp., passed away on October 1 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Wayne was the son of the late William and Barbara Solt Miller and a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hanover Twp. After graduating from Bishop Hoban High School in 1979, Wayne entered the Air Force and served honorably from 1979-1983. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned numerous decorations and citations for his service.
After being honorably discharged from the USAF, Wayne went to work for the Dept. of Corrections. Initially, he worked at SCI Rockville, and then he transferred to SCI Retreat where he was one of the first officers. He held numerous positions at SCI Retreat and was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant. Finally, Wayne transferred to SCI Dallas and retired with the rank of Captain.
Wayne was a big fan of Penn State football and wrestling and of the LA Raiders. He loved riding his Harley and had a heart of gold, always going the extra mile for everyone. Wayne was so thankful for all of the friends and family that visited him during his stay at the nursing home.
Wayne leaves behind Zeny, his wife of 35 years, brothers Jay and David, sister Barbara, Aunt Penny Wright, God-Daughter Melanie Sweeney, and many extended family.
A Viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday, October 5 at Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish Street Wilkes-Barre, PA. The funeral service and interment will follow at 11am in the chapel at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
