Arthur Giampa December 1, 2023

Art Giampa, 92 of Hanover Twp., passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at Allied Hospice
Meade St. Wilkes-Barre.
Art was born in March 1, 1931, the son of the late Vincent and Catherine Giampa. He was a
1948 graduate of Meyers High School, where he was a great athlete in track and met his future
wife Jacqueline. Until his retirement in 1988, Art was employed as a clerk at the Wilkes-Barre
Post Office.
Art was a survivor. He was a corporal in the 109 th National Guard. He was injured in the 1950
train wreck when his troop train, which was stopped on the tracks near the PA-Ohio border, was
hit by “The Spirit of St. Louis” passenger train. The collision resulted in 33 deaths and many
injured, including Art.
He survived 2 bouts with cancer and then suffered a stroke in 2019. Until the time of his stroke,
he was very active-driving, cutting grass, shoveling snow, and doing his 2 favorite activities,
bowling and going to the casino. After his first stroke, he lived with his son Keith and wife
Louise, who cared for him until his second stroke 2 weeks ago.
Art is survived by his wife of 69 years Jacqueline, son Keith and his wife Louise, nieces, and
nephews.
A special thank you is extended to Home Instead, especially Gail, his main caregiver for over 3
years who surely enabled him to stay at home. We all wish to thank Hospice of the Sacred
Heart and the incredible staff at Allied Hospice Meade St. who helped all of us through Art’s final
week.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 5 in St. Robert
Bellarmine Parish/St. Aloysius Church, Hanover Twp. Everyone is asked to go directly to the
