Frederick J. Halsey January 16, 2025

Frederick J. Halsey. Jr, 83 of Dallas, PA passed away peacefully at The Meadows Nursing and
Rehab Facility on January 3 rd . Eileen Carlin, his wife of 22 years preceded him in death on
August 4, 2022.
Fred was the son of the late Frederick Halsey, Sr. and Rose Homnick of Queens, NY. The
youngest of two sons, Fred was very close to his older brother, John (Skip), who he revered until
his passing in July 2015.
A talented athlete, Fred went to the University of Miami on a baseball and basketball scholarship
and earned his Juris Doctorate from Fordham Law School. After passing the bar, he had the
privilege of serving as celebrated justice Thurgood Marhsall’s law clerk while he sat on the New
York State Supreme Court. He went on to practice in New York City, specializing in sports and
entertainment law and representing such notable clients as reggae star Jimmy Cliff.
Fred was an avid sports fan and closely followed the New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks and
Rangers. A lover of music, his favorite artists included Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Joe Cocker.
And Simply Red.
He met Eileen in 1998 while visiting his mother in Wilkes-Barre and they were married in 2000.
An inseparable couple, they resided in both New York City and Dallas until 2011 when they
moved to Pennsylvania permanently. They were both lovers of the arts and were dedicated
supporters of Wilkes-Barre’s Fine Arts Fiesta and fond of traveling – particularly to Europe. But
nothing competed with their favorite pastime — hosting gatherings to spend time with friends and
family.
Fred is survived by his son, Douglas, and partner Tara Canty of New York, NY and daughter
Amber Pfau, her husband Michael, and grandchildren Alden and Cora Rose of San Diego.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, January 28 th at 11am in St. Theresa’s Church,
Shavertown. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11am. Interment will follow
in St. Nicholas’s Cemetery, Shavertown.
