Jacqueline M. McCabe, 96, of South Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday evening, April 13 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Prior to her death she had been a resident at Allied Services Center City.
Born January 5, 1929, Jacqueline was the daughter of Fred and Evelyn Gallagher Hauberger. A graduate of Meyers High School, she held a number of jobs throughout her life and retired from K-Mart in Edwardsville. After her retirement she volunteered for a number of years at St. Vincent dePaul Soup Kitchen. She was a fan of Notre Dame football and NY Yankees baseball, and made the best anise cutout cookies at Christmas. She was also an animal lover and especially loved visits with her five grandpups.
She is survived by her three sons: James and his wife Sharon, Luzerne; Thomas and his wife Suzanne, Swoyersville; and Daniel and his wife Jean, Shavertown. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Jessica Matushek, James McCabe, Lindsey (Joe) Fallon, and Erika McCabe, and two great-grandchildren, Samantha Matushek and EJ Matushek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, Division Street, Wilkes Barre. Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Arrangements are by Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St. Wikes-Barre.
The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Services Center City for their compassionate care over the last several months. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent dePaul Soup Kitchen or the Luzerne County SPCA.
