Kenneth S. Thoma, Jr. January 15, 2025

Kenneth S. Thoma, Jr., Wilkes-Barre passed away on Feb. 17, 2023 at the University of
Pennsylvania Medical Center with his wife Ellen by his side.
He was born on October 9, 1951 to Kenneth S. and Sarah Kelly Thoma. Kenneth was a
graduate of Meyers High School and attended Luzerne County Community College before he
found his calling in the field of plumbing, heating & air conditioning. He established his own
business, Kenneth Thoma Plumbing, Heating, and A/C in 1986 and was proud to teach the
trade to his son Kenny so he could work beside him and carry on the family business.
Kenneth was a member of Wyoming Valley Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and
spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan
and rarely missed a game. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Ken was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help a person in need. He was
always there for anyone who needed him and worked many nights, weekends and holidays in
order to provide service to his customers.
In 1976 he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Steinkirchner. Ken and Ellen enjoyed
spending most of their time together, they were team. One of his greatest joys was having his
family together and seeing friends. They also enjoyed spending time with their grand dogs.
Ken was proceeded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Sarah “Sally” Thoma, brother Joseph,
Mother in-law Mollie Sullivan, and Father in-law Francis Steinkirchner.
Along with his wife of 46 years, he is survived by their three beautiful children Stacey Thoma,
Kenneth S. Thoma III, Molly Lukasavage and her husband, John; the apple of his eye, his
granddaughter Madison Thoma and grandson, Jack Lukasavage. His siblings, Nancy
Kaprowski, Charles Thoma and his wife, Cindy, and Jayne Evans. Along with numerous other
family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation on Thursday, February 23 from 5-7pm at Mamary-
Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. A memorial service will be
held at 7pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
