Michael Francis Lavin April 5, 2024

After a long, hard-fought, courageous battle with cancer, Michael Francis Lavin, 55 of Wilkes-
Barre, passed away at home on Friday, April 5 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Mike was born in Wilkes-Barre to Francis and Michaelene (Ross) Lavin. He was a proud 1987
graduate of GAR High School who furthered his education at LCCC and Temple, where he
earned a degree in accounting.
Mike worked for Wilkes-Barre City and then then as a part time custodian in the Wilkes-Barre
Area School District. He went on to work for Luzerne County first at the office of Clerk of Courts
and then as the fiscal supervisor for Adult Probation.
Mike was a proud member of the Wilkes-Barre Eagles Club Arie 353, and he was a GAR
baseball coach for years. Mike loved the Mets, Jets, Nicks, horseracing and sports betting.
In addition to his parents, Mike leaves behind Mary (Hunter), his loving wife of almost 20 years,
brother James and Patty, cousin Georgiann Ross, in-laws Nancy and James Hunter, Malinda
Hunter, Megan and Robert Toney, Aunt Frances and Uncle Fred Holtzman and their children,
his friend and neighbor Ryan Gwynn, and many other friends and relatives who were always by
his side.
He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Marla Hunter.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bruce Saidman and his nurses, Dr.
Louise Connell of Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, Dr. Jason Woloski, and Allied Hospice
Care for their exceptional care of Mike during his long illness.
A celebration of Mike’s like will be held on Sunday, April 14 from 2-4pm at Mamary-Durkin
Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St. Wilkes-Barre. In honor of Mike, the family
requests that those attending the visitation would please dress casually. A blessing service,
conducted by Chaplin Gerlin Valencia, will follow at 4pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
