Reverend John (Jack) Klein passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
Jack was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 22, 1938 to the late Martin N. Klein and Mary (Torma)
Klein. After graduating from Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Jack entered the Navy and
served overseas from 1958-1962 performing various duties aboard the USS John Paul Jones.
After the service, Jack entered the Seminary, first attending St. Phillip Neri, Boston, MA,
Resurrection College, Kitchener, Canada, and Christ the King Seminary St. Bonaventure, Olen,
NY. He was ordained on May 30, 1970 at St John’s Parish in Patterson, NJ.
Jack remained in NJ and lived a full and wonderful life serving in St. Vincent de Paul Parish,
Sterling, NJ, St. Theresa’s Parish and Elementary School, Immaculate Conception Parish,
Franklin, NJ, and finally ended his career at St. George Parish and School, Patterson, NJ. In
between running a church and a school, Jack also found time to serve as Chaplain at Beth
Israel Hospital and Passaic General Hospital for 14 years.
Jack was a faithful priest for 53 years as well as a loving son, uncle, and friend to many. He will
be sadly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Barbara H. Klein McGarry and
husband John, brother Martin (Mohawk) Klein, and nephew Mark McGarry.
He is survived by his niece Mary McGarry, nephew Sean McGarry and wife Jen, and great-
nieces Cassidy Barbara McGarry and Madison Lee McGarry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Most Reverend Kevin J. Sweeney, Bishop of the
Diocese of Patterson, NJ at 12pm on Tuesday, January 23 in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish/St.
Aloysius Church, Hanover Twp. Interment with Navy Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Hanover Twp.
