Vern Blazick January 13, 2025

“One of a kind.” This is the refrain heard from friends and family after learning of Vern’s
passing on July 19, 2023.
Vern was born on April 19, 1943, the daughter of the late Margaret Pullis Treslar and Keith
Treslar. Vern graduated from Forty Fort High School and attended multiple classes at Luzerne
County Community College.
After graduating high school, Vern initially worked for RCA and Eberhart Faber where she made
many lifelong friendships. After the birth of her children, she was an active volunteer with the
PTA and worked as an aide in the Hanover Green Elementary School. She later worked as an
administrative assistant and office manager at Wilkes-Barre Orthotics and Prosthetics. After
working in this industry for many years, Vern and several business partners, including her dear
friend Jean Hayduk, started and operated their own successful business – Riverview Orthotics
and Prosthetics. Vern loved working with patients and made many lifelong friendships along the
way. Vern also owned and operated a convenience store – Cascade – with her brother Theodore
Treslar.
Vern’s true love was her husband, Chester Blazick, to whom she had been married for fifty-two
years. The couple shared a unique bond, love and understanding of each other – much like Frank
and Estelle Costanza of the sitcom Seinfeld! Vern was never really the same after Chet’s death
in 2019, he was her everything. Their love created two children, Michael and Lee Ann, along
with five grandchildren. Vern loved her grandchildren and never turned down a request to
babysit if the kids “promised not to bother her!”
Other than spending time with her husband and family, Vern absolutely loved going to the casino
and playing the slot machines. She also enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles and a good
book.
In addition to her parents and husband, Vern was preceded in death by her brother Keith Treslar.
She is survived by her brother Theodore Treslar; children Michael Blazick and Lee Ann
Spalthoff and their spouses, Kate Blazick and Kenneth Spalthoff; grandchildren Hillary and
Owen Blazick and Kaylee, Emma and Olivia Spalthoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vern wishes to thank her son and daughter-in-law for providing a home and support during the
last five years of her life as well as their friends who treated her as their own mother. She also
thanks her daughter Lee Ann for her tremendous love and support as well as her friends Jean
Hayduk, Carol Jean Knight and Liz Swiatek. Vern is also incredibly appreciative of Raymond
Joseph, M.D., for his guidance and compassion throughout her illness. Finally, Vern and the
family thank the team of doctors and nurses at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for the incredible
and compassionate care they provided for her at the end of her life.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 27 at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church

in Hanover Township. Calling hours will be held prior to the Mass in the church from 9:00 to
10:00 a.m.
Vern’s sense of humor and larger than life personality will be sorely missed. May she have
everlasting peace in the hands of God with her beloved husband Chester.
